Key Responsibilities
Product Classification
- Assign accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN) to products using established tools, databases, and technical documentation.
- Review and analyze product specifications, technical drawings, and engineering data to determine correct classifications.
- Research and interpret official classification resources, such as customs rulings, export regulations, and government guidance, to support compliance decisions.
Trade Compliance Operations
- Ensure product data and classifications are accurately maintained in internal systems and are audit-ready.
- Perform sanctions screening and due diligence checks on customers, orders, and shipments to ensure compliance with applicable trade regulations.
- Support the preparation and submission of documentation for import and export activities as needed.
- Assist in maintaining records and reports required for audits, government inquiries, and internal reviews.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with engineering, sourcing, supply chain, and trade compliance teams to collect and validate product information.
- Identify and support process improvement initiatives, documentation updates, and data quality enhancements related to trade compliance.
- Stay up to date on changes in customs and export control regulations and communicate relevant updates to the team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in trade compliance, customs classification, or import/export operations.
- Hands-on experience managing import and export compliance activities across multiple regions, preferably including the U.S., U.K., and China.
- Hands-on experience assigning HTS and ECCN codes and interpreting international trade regulations.
- Strong analytical and research skills — able to interpret technical and regulatory data to make informed decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation discipline.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working with cross-functional and multicultural teams.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
