Cloud & AI Backend (Head/Lead/Engineer)

About Our Client:

Our client is a technology company specializing in the development of an end-to-end platform for creating, managing, and deploying volumetric avatars and videos. They are revolutionizing digital identity with proprietary AI-powered 3D avatar technology that transforms 2D images into hyper-realistic, animatable 3D avatars for gaming, social media, enterprise, and generative AI. Their applications are available on major platforms, including iOS, Android, Steam, and Viveport. They are expanding globally and are seeking a Cloud & AI Backend expert to architect the backbone of our scalable, GPU-accelerated infrastructure.

Job Summary:

To design, build, and optimize multi-cloud infrastructure and AI backend systems. You will manage the existing AWS environment while duplicating and adapting stack on Alibaba Cloud to serve China-based users. In addition, you will architect and maintain backend services that power the Company’s AI-driven products, ensuring scalability, compliance, and performance across regions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cloud Infrastructure

• Design, deploy, and maintain scalable solutions on AWS.
• Duplicate and adapt infrastructure on Alibaba Cloud for China users, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
• Implement multi-cloud strategies for redundancy, availability, and seamless user experience.

2. AI Backend Development

• Build and optimize backend services to support AI workloads (model serving, inference APIs, data pipelines).
• Integrate AI models into production environments with high availability and low latency.
• Collaborate with data scientists to deploy and scale generative AI solutions.
  

3. Security & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to international and China-specific data protection laws.
• Configure IAM, encryption, and monitoring across both clouds.
  

4. Automation & DevOps

• Build CI/CD pipelines for cloud and AI backend services.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or Alibaba equivalents.
  

5. Monitoring & Performance

• Set up observability tools to track system health across both clouds and AI services.
• Proactively resolve latency, scaling, and reliability issues for global and China-specific workloads.
  
  

Requirements & Tech Stack:

Experience

• 5 to 10 years of experience in cloud backend engineering, building scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Expert in multi-cloud environments: AWS required, Alibaba Cloud highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience managing GPU-accelerated workloads (AWS EC2/G5, FluidStack, etc.) for AI/ML inference or rendering.
• Fluent in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS).
• Strong programming skills (Python, Go, Node.js) and adept at designing secure APIs.
• FinOps mindset, balancing performance and cost.
• Bonus: CI/CD for Unity projects or mobile apps.

Technical Skills

• Proven experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, SageMaker).
• Hands-on expertise with Alibaba Cloud (ECS, OSS, RDS, Function Compute, Machine Learning Platform for AI).
• Strong knowledge of multi-cloud architecture and cross-region networking.
• Experience in backend engineering (Python, Node.js, or Go) with focus on AI/ML systems.
• Familiarity with model deployment frameworks (TensorFlow Serving, TorchServe, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code and automation tools.
• Knowledge of China’s regulatory environment for cloud services is a plus.
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Alibaba Cloud Monitor).
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash).
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, AI research, security, and compliance.
