About the role
You will be the primary custodian of animal health and welfare, overseeing veterinary care, disease prevention, research, and facility management for a diverse range of species, including penguins, seals, and rainforest wildlife. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of conservation, education, and high-standard animal husbandry.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the animal clinic, R&D laboratory equipment, and veterinary facilities.
- Ensure optimal health and welfare for all livestock, including penguins, seals, and rainforest species.
- Collaborate with the Curator and Curatorial team on animal care, habitat maintenance, and operational needs.
- Maintain statutory and legal records for livestock, facilities, and veterinary activities.
- Monitor and control environmental quality (air/water) and supervise treatment programs.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for feeding, disease diagnosis, treatment, post-mortem, quarantine, and disease prevention.
- Lead and monitor breeding programs for selected species and propose facility improvements.
- Conduct in-house R&D to improve animal housing and life support systems.
- Train staff in animal husbandry, veterinary care, and safe handling procedures.
- Build partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and universities for research and conservation projects.
- Propose new initiatives to enhance animal exhibitions and improve operational efficiency.
What we’re looking for
- Licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
- Proven veterinary experience, preferably with aquatic and wildlife species.
- Passion for research, conservation, and education in animal welfare.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and inspire a team to maintain high standards of animal care.
