About our client:

Our client is a reputable professional legal services firm currently expanding its corporate secretarial, advisory, and compliance service offerings. As part of this growth, we are seeking a highly experienced Partner – Corporate Secretary to join the firm’s leadership team.

Position Overview:

They are seeking a qualified Corporate Secretary at the Partner level who is registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM). The ideal candidate should bring an existing portfolio of clients and/or demonstrate the ability to generate new business opportunities. This role requires a strategic contributor to the growth of our corporate secretarial practice, delivering high-level governance and advisory support. Fluency in both English and Mandarin is essential, along with strong business acumen, proven leadership capabilities, and a collaborative mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Practice Leadership:

  • Lead and oversee the corporate secretarial function within the firm, ensuring excellence in service delivery and compliance.
  • Contribute to the firm’s strategic planning, business development, and operational leadership at partner level.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate secretarial clients and support the onboarding of new clients (including those the candidate brings in).

2. Client Management & Advisory:

  • Advise clients on Companies Act 2016, SSM guidelines, Bursa Malaysia listing requirements, corporate governance best practices, and other statutory obligations.
  • Act as named Company Secretary for client companies and attend board and shareholders’ meetings as required.
  • Review and sign off on all statutory documents, resolutions, minutes, and filings with regulatory bodies.

3. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate lodgment of statutory filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and other authorities.
  • Keep abreast of updates and changes in corporate laws and regulations, and ensure clients remain in compliance.

4. Team Development:

  • Mentor and guide junior company secretaries and support staff, fostering professional development and high performance.
  • Develop internal procedures, checklists, and knowledge resources to strengthen the department’s operations and quality standards.

5. Business Development:

  • Actively contribute to the firm’s growth by bringing in new business opportunities and leveraging personal/professional networks.
  • Participate in networking events, seminars, and relevant industry forums to represent the firm and expand visibility.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Member of MAICSA, ICSA, or other relevant professional bodies is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of corporate secretarial experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Must be a registered licensed company secretary with SSM (Companies Commission of Malaysia).
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian company law, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a sizeable portfolio and lead a team effectively.
  • Candidate must be willing to engage in client meetings, participate in business development activities, and contribute to bringing in new client accounts.
  • Excellent command of English and Mandarin (both written and spoken) is essential for client communications and documentation.
